Multimodal and Intermodal Transport

River Shipping & Canal Systems

Especially for out of gauge and heavy lift cargo, the inland waterways and canal system is often the only feasible method of transportation due to dimensions and weight – and at the same time a very cost-effective solution, too.

No matter whether it's Rhine and Danube in Europe or Mississippi and Ohio in the USA: PLS works closely with river shipping companies, brokers and port operators.

Besides pure river freight service, port handling, and pre- and on-carriage, customs clearance can be offered and executed

as well.

Multimodal & Intermodal

PLS is specialized in combining modes of transport and scrutinizing the best means and methods for your loading, considering both time and costs.

Our experts are aware of the advantages and disadvantages of each mode, of the availability of equipment, and of the transportation infrastructure, especially for out of gauge and heavy lift cargo.

An example including 4 modes:

Pre-carriage by rail to river port, via barge to seaport, via vessel with "ship’s own gear" to the port of destination, on-carriage to the final destination via trailer.

Our concepts include risk analysis for each mode of transport with special attention to the interfaces. It is our intention to supervise the critical loading, the transshipment, and the discharge points personally, and to arrange a survey in order to represent and to cover your interests.

Single document to cover such transports are Through Bill of Lading or FIATA Bill of Lading.

Air & Sea / Sea & Air

Combining air and sea freight allows you to use the advantages of each – a plus for your supply chain. Lower freight costs than air freight alone, and less transit time than sea freight shipments. You will be able to find a suitable balance between time and cost.

PLS feel free to contact us, we will find alternative solutions to your logistics challenges.
